Inaugural Holiday Lights Celebration Brings Community Cheer
RARITAN TWP., N.J. (Hunterdon County) — More than 500 residents joined Mayor Scott Sipos and the Raritan Township Committee in celebrating the township’s first Holiday Lights celebration at its municipal complex, Dec. 1.
The festive, community-oriented event created a family-friendly atmosphere and featured the lighting of a Christmas tree, a menorah, dazzling Diwali lights, the Raritan Township Police Department, Raritan Township Fire Department, and 49 Rescue Squad – all of whom brought the true spirit of the holiday season.

“The goal was to bring a sense of community and identity to Raritan Township, and our residents did not disappoint. [It] was a tremendous success,” Sipos said.
From hot chocolate and cookies to pizza and pasta, donations were graciously provided by local businesses including Panatieri's Pizza & Pasta of Flemington, ShopRite, Kellanova, and Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 31 in Flemington.
“The lighting of the holiday tree and menorah is a great way to kick off the holiday season by bringing our community together,” said Jeff Kuhl, Commissioner Director of Hunterdon County. “This time of year, is always a good occasion to reflect on our shared values like family, friendship, and community.”
“It is wonderful to see the community come together to celebrate the holiday season with such joy and unity and serves as a reminder of the many things we share in common,” Zach Rich, Commissioner of Hunterdon County added.
Families also had the opportunity to take photos with Santa, bring canned goods to support the Flemington Area Food Pantry and spent time to write heartfelt holiday cards for active military servicemembers serving overseas.

“What an awesome experience to bring a new tradition to town,” Sipos said. “I’d also like to thank our local businesses that donated to the event. The event does not happen without all your collective efforts.”
“Thank you to the Raritan Township Committee and everyone who participated and helped make this event a success,” Rich said.
